Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy or "talk therapy" helps with a wide range of issues and concerns. Psychotherapy can help to reduce emotional struggles, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and elicit positive change in the mind and body. Some people benefit from short-term therapy and others prefer long-term treatment. Research has shown that the majority of people who seek psychotherapy demonstrate a better quality of life and reduction in symptoms. 

Brandy Gillihan, LMHC

I work with all genders to collaboratively help clients match actions with values. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is my primary lens. This means increasing your ability to pursue a life full of meaning, driven by your values even in the face of painful thoughts, feelings, sensations, and urges. In essence, this work involves helping you relate to your painful inner experiences differently, so that they have less impact and influence on how you show up in the world. ACT is about helping you experience your full humanity--which includes both joy and pain—while engaging in behavior that is in alignment with your values.

I also work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) framework. This means that I help clients focus on health behaviors (if health is a value you hold) rather than focusing on weight/body size. Within these ACT and HAES frameworks, we may collaboratively use various interventions, including self-compassion, mindfulness, education, skill-building, and mind-body interventions among other approaches as needed. When desired or indicated, I also use dreamwork and imagination-based interventions.

Therapy Services

Initial Intake

Fee:  $175

The intake session is our first meeting. We will thoroughly discuss your history, concerns, symptoms, and goals for therapy. We will also work towards determining goodness of fit. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to determine if we will work well together. I encourage you to research other therapists and find the best provider to fit your needs. As we work together past the intake session, we will continue to explore your experiences, address symptoms, develop strategies, and set new goals as needed. The intake session is 60 minutes. I provide in-office and telehealth therapy options. 

Therapy Sessions

Fee:  $150

Short term and long term treatment is available depending on your therapy goals. Typically, sessions are weekly or bi-weekly at the start of treatment. As you make progress and get closer to your goals, the frequency of sessions can be reduced. Some clients prefer to continue frequent sessions to maintain their progress and address new issues or stressors. Others choose to return to therapy for monthly sessions or as needed. You determine what is best for you. Sessions are 55 to 60 minutes. Most insurance plans cover unlimited sessions per year. Check with your insurance carrier for any limitations and your out of pocket cost.  

*I do not provide psychological evaluations, court-ordered therapy, couple's therapy, family therapy, crisis treatment, or medication management. Telehealth is only available to those living in Washington state. I only see client's age 18 and up.
